Question by Sarah: Can my breastfeeding son have thrush without me getting it?
I sometimes notice white stuff on his tongue. I’m assuming it’s either leftover milk or that he’s got thrush. It gets lighter, but I can’t tell if it ever completely goes away. But I have no symptoms, & I’ve had it before with my daughter, so I know what it feels like. But sometimes I notice the whiteness quite a while after he’s nursed. Do I need to try to get him to take a drink of water to rinse his mouth to prevent thrush, if the milk is staying in his mouth that long? That’s what my daughter’s ped. recommended, but she was quite a bit older (maybe 8 or 9 months?) while my son is only 3 weeks old. Ideas?

Best answer:

Answer by September SweetieYou need to take your baby to the pediatrician. He’s getting the thrush from your nipples when he’s breastfeeding. I’m not trying to be rude here….he’s getting thrush from you not washing your nipples and breasts good enough after each feeding. To get rid of thrush….he needs to get medicine prescribed by his pediatrician.

Question by drummerboy: How long does it take to get rid of thrush?
I have a yeast infection (Thrush) on my penis, and took an over the counter pill on sunday, combined with natural yoghurt, drinking plenty of water and cut sugar and alcohol out of my diet.
Its now thursday and the visual symptoms are almost all but gone, however I want to know how long I should leave it before I can safely have intercourse without infecting my partner?

Best answer:

Answer by BobI found out I had systemic cadidiasis once, after antibiotic treatment followed by thrush.

It takes months to get rid of it completely, but, usually if you suppress the bacteria, it is virtually gone.

To suppress it, take a regiment of Lactobacillus acidophilus for a few weeks. I would suggest buying a cleansing formula with LA from GNC and follow the directions.

It really worked for me. My thrush cleared after two days and after the first week, I felt amazing.

Good Luck, I hope this helped!

Oral Thrush in All Ages

It is said that regular visit to your personal dentist will actually give out the best in you. You can already smile with all your 32 teeth seen. But sometimes, maintaining an appointment to your personal doctor in dentist coat is quite costly. Brushing your teeth is not enough to make a winsome smile. It is because it might have some cavities which are hiding in between the teeth. Dentists are actually a must in order to avoid some kinds of diseases like gingivitis.

Aside from diseases in the gums caused by cavities, another disease caused by lack of dental check up is oral thrush. If your doctor in dentist coat says that you have yeast fungi infection, that may be under the genus known as Candida. That is the reason why it is also called as oral candidiasis. It constitutes white thick deposits which can be seen in the inner cheeks and sometimes on top of the tongue.

In order for us to understand the true definition of oral candidiasis, a sought from a medical dictionary is what we need.

I quote, oral thrush is an infection of the oral tissues with Candida albicans; often an opportunistic infection in humans with AIDS or those suffering from other conditions that depress the immune system; also common in normal infants who have been treated with antibiotics. In other words, it is indeed common to all ages. It may be normal for babies but to adults, it is somewhat intriguing. So, are you nervous? If yes, then what you are going to do is look for symptoms and other signs of oral thrush and check if these apply to you.

But before that, what may be the difference between symptoms and signs? The former is something that is being felt by the patient, yet the latter is something that is being diagnosed by the doctor in dentist coat.

So in adults, if you see a white or creamy-colored spots in the mouth, particularly on the mucous membrane, that may be a sign of oral thrush. If not treated in an instant, it may cause joining together of the said deposits which in turn will cause plaques.

Disease is generally caused by dirt, poor hygiene and unsanitary things. Just like the same with oral thrush, if you are using dentures, make sure that you are keeping it sterilized. You must take it off before going to bed. It is because during the wee hours, that is the time that saliva is being stuck in small holes of such dentures, causing the formation of virus causing several kinds of mouth diseases. However true, there are also instances of over-cleanliness which do not make a good result. One of these is the excessive use of mouth wash.

That is why, always keep in mind that moderation is always good.

I don’t want to go get checked if i have the option of getting the medication free of prescription. I’m pretty sure i have thrush because i’ve been experiencing the obvious symptoms. Im not sure what i should use. My symptoms are not severe. I am 16 years old. What medication should i look for? Is it expensive??
It is vaginal thrush not oral.

Best answer:

Answer by nurse ratchetYou should always go to the doc if this is your first infection. They need to determine if it is bacterial vs. fungal. The doc can prescribe you an appropriate script and with insurance can wind up being cheaper than any over the counter treatment.

Question by kelly m: What kind of acidophilus should I take for thrush?
I’m breastfeeding, and think I might have thrush. I don’t have all the symptoms, but my nipples really hurt when I nurse. I don’t have shooting pain in my breasts, and the pain doesn’t last once I stop nursing. But when I nurse it feels like baby has razors in her mouth. I feel great relief when I stop.
I don’t think it’s improper latch. She’s 9months , so I think by now she knows how to latch properly.
I thought of using gentian violet and acidophilus. Is it okay to take lactobacilus acidophilus if you can’t drink milk? If not what else can I take?
And also, can I use gentian violet? Will it stain my baby’s teeth?

Best answer:

Answer by KooriGirlIf you are lactose intolerant, lactobacillus acidophillus is very good for you, as it helps to break down lactose (milk sugars) by producing the enzyme lactase, which lactose intolerant individuals do not produce.

Have a look at this link for lactobacillus acidophillus.

Question by ?????¢? (???’? ?????): How do I no if my daughter has thrush?
What ages does thrush effect infants? What are the symptoms? The reason I am asking is because my 9 week olds tongue is a little whiter then normal and she is starting to not eat as well as before.
She is not breastfed.

Best answer:

Answer by alikatAvas mommy, there you are worrying again! It is normal to have some white milk residue on babies tongue. I was worried about this too, and I was told it is perfectly normal! Thrush would be a very thick white FURRY coating on babies tongue. If you are really concerned, see your doctor. Or call. But it sounds like milk residue to me. You sound like a very good momy, I’m glad you love your little one so much.
