Question by Sarah: Can my breastfeeding son have thrush without me getting it?
I sometimes notice white stuff on his tongue. I’m assuming it’s either leftover milk or that he’s got thrush. It gets lighter, but I can’t tell if it ever completely goes away. But I have no symptoms, & I’ve had it before with my daughter, so I know what it feels like. But sometimes I notice the whiteness quite a while after he’s nursed. Do I need to try to get him to take a drink of water to rinse his mouth to prevent thrush, if the milk is staying in his mouth that long? That’s what my daughter’s ped. recommended, but she was quite a bit older (maybe 8 or 9 months?) while my son is only 3 weeks old. Ideas?

Answer by September SweetieYou need to take your baby to the pediatrician. He’s getting the thrush from your nipples when he’s breastfeeding. I’m not trying to be rude here….he’s getting thrush from you not washing your nipples and breasts good enough after each feeding. It takes months to get rid of it completely, but, usually if you suppress the bacteria, it is virtually gone.
To suppress it, take a regiment of Lactobacillus acidophilus for a few weeks. I would suggest buying a cleansing formula with LA from GNC and follow the directions.
It really worked for me. My thrush cleared after two days and after the first week, I felt amazing.

Answer by sexxi_angelaMy cousin had gotten it when she was 17 and she went to the doctor and was put on antibiotics. It then cleared up. Her boyfriend did not have it either. I would suggest go to a doctor of the ER and they should be able to treat you. Hope you feel better soon!

I’m breastfeeding, and think I might have thrush. I don’t have all the symptoms, but my nipples really hurt when I nurse. Thrush would be a very thick white FURRY coating on babies tongue. If you are really concerned, see your doctor. Or call. But it sounds like milk residue to me.
