Answer by AngelaYes, My daughter got thrush while breastfeeding and I got it on the breast. I actually used something called Gentian Violet. It’s a chemical that’s harmless to you and to the baby. I had to rub some of it on my breast and in the baby’s mouth. Now, beware: It will turn your breast and the baby’s mouth VERY purple. This is okay – it’s normal. But this is what the dorctor told me to do for it, and it worked after only 3 treatments. It’s an over the counter thing, but it’s hard to find in your regular drugstore. I ordered mine online and it came in 2 days. It was such a great relief and a big help. You can look it up online to find it.It usually runs anywhere from $ 5 – $ 10 for a 2 oz bottle – depending on what percent solution you get (they a have a 1% solution for $ 5 and a 2% for closer to $ 10). i only pump i dont nurse, and lately i’ve been having symptoms of thrush of the nipples (shooting pain through out my breasts, itchy nipples, a dry cracked nipples) and i was just wondering if the plastic from a breast pump could cause me to get thrush?

Question by j: What are the symptoms of Thrush? Can you only have it in one breast?
My right nipple is sore, and bright red, it also pokes out A LOT. I’ve had some shooting and dull pains in it as well.
My left nipple goes flat except when she is nursing, she has a hard time latching on at times, but it doesn’t ever hurt like the right one does.
My daughter is 4 weeks. My nipples were both cracked, and the right one actually bled, at first, but after using Lanolin cream and a nipple shield it healed, so I stopped using it.
