A yeast infection is an infection cause by yeast or fungus. Most frequently it is Candida Albicans. This yeast normally lives in our organism: in throat, vagina, on the skin and in the gastrointestinal tract. Most frequent infection caused by Candida is a vaginal infection: according to scientific data, 75% of women will have a vaginal Candida infection, almost 50% will have it more then once in their lifetime, and 25% will have more than 3 episodes of vaginal candidiasis during a year.

So, how does it happen, when Candida strikes? Normally, the vagina is acidic and Candida does not grow. If the balance of acidity is tilted, Candida begin to overgrow and causes a vaginal infection. There are many causes to affect the acidity inside of vagina: menstruation (period), diabetes, steroids, birth control pills, etc. What are the symptoms of vaginal yeast (Candida) infection?

If the balance of acidity is tilted, Candida begin to overgrow and causes a vaginal infection. There are many causes to affect the acidity inside of vagina: menstruation (period), diabetes, steroids, birth control pills, etc. What are the symptoms of vaginal yeast (Candida) infection?

The surest way to tell that you have a vaginal Candida infection is to see a doctor. Doctor will make a swab test – a simple, sure and noninvasive investigation. Consider a vaginal Candida infection if you have the following symptoms:

Vaginal discharge – white discharge with cheese-like texture. It can range from that to a thin clear or thin and faint yellow discharge.

Smells like bread or beer, like yeast in the vulva

Burning and itching in the vagina and vulva.

The skin surrounding the vagina becomes swollen.

Pain during sexual intercourse.

When you go to a doctor, make sure all the symptoms and signs are told to the doctor: this will help him to make the right diagnosis. Remember, you have to be completely sincere to the doctor: this will help the doctor to make the difference between a yeast infection and an STD.

The doctor will prescribe you a medical treatment for you yeast infection. The medicine will help you to get over this episodic infection. However, for a complete elimination of Candida, read the Candida Symptoms Blog, there are plenty of good posts there.

It might sound alarming yet it is true: Candida, a specific type of fungi, is present in most human beings. Many of us are probably not even aware that such parasites exist, much less that they live in our bodies. But there is no cause for alarm. At a controlled state, these microorganisms do not pose any danger to our health. Like some bacteria which naturally thrive on our systems, Candida is relatively benign as long as its growth is controlled.

The individual’s immune system is responsible for keeping the fungi population at a minimum. Like the highway police, the body’s immune system monitors the traffic and trims down the elements that might cause us harm. However, when we are sick, stressed or malnourished, our control system will most likely fail to regulate these fungi (not to mention other unwanted illness-causing microbes). This will consequently lead to yeast infection called candidiasis.

It is therefore imperative to keep one’s self healthy.

There are other conditions that encourage the multiplication of the Candida yeasts to alarming levels. One of these is an unsanitary environment. An individual’s poor hygiene is another factor. Coupled with high humidity which fungi thrive in, candidiasis is a definite resultant infection.

As fungi can pass easily from person to person, candidiasis is one of the common infections. In the movie Meet the Fockers, Ben Stiller supposedly contracted an infection from using a public toilet. Such scenario is indeed plausible with this contagion. It may also be passed through using an infected individual’s personal items such as towels, or engaging in sexual intercourse with an infected person. Now that’s one reason why monogamy sounds appealing!

Candidiasis can affect not only the genitalia but other parts of the body wherein there is much presence of liquid: the mouth, the esophagus, urinary bladder, and the gastrointestinal tract. Babies sometimes develop thrush, which is yeast infection in the mouth. This happens when milk is not washed off with water and therefore accumulates in the oral cavity. Milk, being a highly favorable ingredient for yeast to multiply, causes the fungi to flourish. Sometimes, the growth is mistaken as simply leftover milk in the babies’ palate. But when it is scrubbed, the area (usually the tongue and upper palate) bleeds. As such, the resultant mouth infection is very painful for the babies. This discourages the infants from eating or suckling; hence, this requires immediate attention.

The yeast infection appears creamy white. It is because of this that the fungi source is called Candida albicans. Albicans, which has the same root as albino, comes from a latin word meaning “white”. One of the most common symptoms of infection is the itching and burning feeling in the infected area. The affected region may also appear and feel sore, becoming inflamed under the cover of white yeast growth.

Though candidiasis is a communicable disease, it is certainly avoidable. A sure-fire way of keeping one safe is to practice safety – in one’s relations, hygiene, and keeping the body healthy. The fungi might be in us, but it doesn’t have to control us.

Question by Sarah: Can my breastfeeding son have thrush without me getting it?
I sometimes notice white stuff on his tongue. I’m assuming it’s either leftover milk or that he’s got thrush. It gets lighter, but I can’t tell if it ever completely goes away. But I have no symptoms, & I’ve had it before with my daughter, so I know what it feels like. But sometimes I notice the whiteness quite a while after he’s nursed. Do I need to try to get him to take a drink of water to rinse his mouth to prevent thrush, if the milk is staying in his mouth that long? That’s what my daughter’s ped. recommended, but she was quite a bit older (maybe 8 or 9 months?) while my son is only 3 weeks old. Ideas?

Answer by September SweetieYou need to take your baby to the pediatrician. He’s getting the thrush from your nipples when he’s breastfeeding. I’m not trying to be rude here….he’s getting thrush from you not washing your nipples and breasts good enough after each feeding. To get rid of thrush….he needs to get medicine prescribed by his pediatrician.

Does anyone know the best treatment for chronic candida syndrome? Even better, does anyone know doctors who heal it in in NY?

Best answer:

Answer by artistagent116Two single doses of the prescription medication Diflucan is the ONLY thing that has ever helped me.
It is a tablet taken orally (1 per day) usually once….but some need it for 2 days. Results are obtained very quickly……usually the symptoms are GONE in 12 hours.
Also, eating yogurt every day can help ward off future outbreaks.

I hope I’ve helped.

I am having no luck with this leaky gut treatment. I have been doing it for about 5 months. It has been a huge waste of money so far and I’m starting to lose it. Is there anybody in the medical field that can give me an argument against the existence of leaky gut, Igg antibodies, Candida or adrenal fatigue? I’m not taking Anti-depression meds anymore because supposedly it can increase “intestinal permeability” but my depression and anxiety is killing me.
Is a candida diet right for me? If you’re suffering from any of the long list of symptoms caused by candida overgrowth or just want to live your life a little healthier then the answer is YES! Candida albicans is yeast that can overgrow and cause numerous health problems. Issues usually present themselves in the mouth, vagina and intestines. It can cause fatigue, headaches, joint pain, and cravings (especially for sweets and sugar). The candida diet outlines foods to avoid. This is done in order to starve and kill off the overgrowth of yeast and rid your body of its harmful toxins.

Let me just state that before beginning any diet, this one included, you should meet with your doctor. If you’re suffering from a lot of the symptoms above it’s smart to have a checkup and make sure there aren’t more serious issues at play.

Another thing you want to do is buy your groceries well in advance, this is a restrictive diet and a hard one to follow without the right ingredients. Don’t put yourself in a position to fail! I would also strongly suggest getting rid of anything that would tempt you to cheat. You should throw away anything that contains sugar as this is one of the main cravings you’ll have when starving the candida. After all if you’re only surrounded by healthy food it’ll be that much easier to stay on point.

A full candida cleanse usually takes between 3 and 8 weeks, depending on how severe the symptoms and the length they’ve been occurring. In the beginning you may notice more symptoms then prior to beginning the diet. Don’t worry! As the candida begins to die off they dump more toxins into your system. This just means the diet is working and within a week you’ll have flushed away all those nasty toxins for good. This is one of those times where patience really is a virtue!

Now some people stop there candida diet at the point they begin to feel better again. Others choose to make it a more permanent way of life citing improved energy, mood and weight loss. Whichever option you choose is up to you but I suggest trying to eliminate as much sugary and starchy food as you can. This will help prevent any further candida infections from happening in the future.

Question by drummerboy: How long does it take to get rid of thrush?
I have a yeast infection (Thrush) on my penis, and took an over the counter pill on sunday, combined with natural yoghurt, drinking plenty of water and cut sugar and alcohol out of my diet.
Its now thursday and the visual symptoms are almost all but gone, however I want to know how long I should leave it before I can safely have intercourse without infecting my partner?

Best answer:

Answer by BobI found out I had systemic cadidiasis once, after antibiotic treatment followed by thrush.

It takes months to get rid of it completely, but, usually if you suppress the bacteria, it is virtually gone.

To suppress it, take a regiment of Lactobacillus acidophilus for a few weeks. I would suggest buying a cleansing formula with LA from GNC and follow the directions.

It really worked for me. My thrush cleared after two days and after the first week, I felt amazing.

Good Luck, I hope this helped!

Answer by sexxi_angelaMy cousin had gotten it when she was 17 and she went to the doctor and was put on antibiotics. It then cleared up. Her boyfriend did not have it either. I would suggest go to a doctor of the ER and they should be able to treat you. Hope you feel better soon!
